Winning isn’t everything, it’s how you play the game. Recall that idiom? It’s apparent that society must have winners and losers in everything, because some rise higher than others. However, those winners and losers may actually be trying too hard in their respective fields, instead of just doing what it is that gives them the most joy. Playing . On that note, I submit to you a new composition I’ve uploaded to Soundcloud. If you keep floating above the surface, you’re doing alright. Make yr art or music or whatever for the only reason you know. Because if you didn’t, you’d sink and be miserable. Everything else doesn’t matter.
So the tech world of today is drowning in “content”. That’s what we call media these days…any piece of video, photo, sound, text or other entertaining or interesting tidbit found in the teeming internet ocean that may one day be given a thumbs-up by the masses. It used to be a tangible thing, like full-page magazine spreads and vinyl records. Or cozy on the couch with snacks for prime-time action TV. Now anyone can take their own videos or be a shutterbug, digitally…using their phone! Now called a mobile device. Isn’t it crazy that one of the earliest advances in communicating with others verbally is now used for just about anything you can imagine? This includes capturing digital content to proliferate on innumerable websites. And there’s no shortage of those “content providers”, whether it’s a social site or vid page or photo viewer. They want, or rather need, your content. The populace has a limited attention span, overstimulated by media from all sides, and requires something else to garner amusement or get a smiley from. So if they’re not getting the fix from a giant media conglomerate, it may as well be you.
So why am I going on with this obvious rant? Well, there is some dismay over people glued as phone-zombies, however the same things were said about television or video games. The real point is the creation of content for this blog. It comes down to what kind of life record you embody in the digital ether, and if it can be accessed by the technologically adept. Therefore I’m submitting a few pieces for my digital history, whether anyone notices in the inter-sea or not. The content is largely photo art in nature, recently made from archived pics. I tried not to work too hard on it, because it was about the fun of making more of them. So I will. Maybe next time with my phone…
So, here’s my first post since early February, when I’d begun recording “Blue Demo Lichen One”. You can now find the new album at losbeatniko.bandcamp.com. I’ve been busy over the last month polishing up sites and links and content and such, to hopefully provide you, the reader/listener/viewer/public with some entertaining insight as to what I’m about. I’ve also been thinking long and hard about what my next steps are. It may very well involve running steps outside of this rock I’ve been dwelling on for some time. Everybody should understand that reflective time in yr life where you wonder a little too much on what yr really doing and why aren’t you doing other things. It’s called getting older, younguns, and when you get to a certain age (not that I’m friggin’ ancient) and realize there’s more you’d like to do and see and experience, you really have to do it sooner than later. And if I line all my ducks in a row, crossing t’s and dotting i’s, then maybe sooner it will be. Planning my escape and recording a new story for myself may be just what I need. I’ll keep you in the loop as to my whereabouts. And what and how!
So it’s Groundhog Day, and by the looks of the snow blowing around the house, the rodents are staying put for awhile. Prime time for another RPM Challenge, where musicians (and non-musicians) are invited to participate in the personal goal of completing an album in the month of February. It’s my fifth year running, and like last year, I’m upping my challenge to finish multiple records. 2013 will produce a solo los beatniko disc (highly DJ-ed), a fresh Robot Scout release, and an original album with the Beatles cover band I’ve been playing drums with for years (finally). I picked up a few new toys to play with, notably the Kaossilator 2 from Korg (incredibly fun!) and the compact Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 to capture all the action.
So far, I have one demo from yesterday that I’ll tweak to my liking. And after I post this, it’s back to working on more. What other fun-filled activities do I accomplish today? Shoveling? Nah! I’ll stay inside and create. Until later.
Here’s my welcome post. I’ve finally taken the step into WordPress land, with the intention of immersing myself in the blogosphere. I write exceptionally well, and should be doing more with the aid of a less tedious blog. I’d also like to integrate some personal and professional design efforts, as well as music. Let’s just see if I can stay tech savvy and throw the promotional life-preserver out there. I’ll try to cover as much ground as I can, because I have many interests, and make some work for myself. Hence the image attached. This blog will be the continuation of my developing more online presence, and quite possibly an online portfolio for future endeavors. Much more to follow. Updates will be precise and hopefully with frequency. So plug in yr headphones, and start getting “freq-y”! I’ll get back to ya soon…
